Train and railroad incidents and crashes are a challenge to any investigator. In addition to the standard crash reconstruction, many complexities may exist that complicate the analysis. Introtech has investigated and reconstructed this category of crash from the actual on-scene investigation as law enforcement officers, to the extensive analysis that occurs after the scene is cleared. We have investigated the full range of issues from analyzing on-board sensor systems of locomotives to forensically mapping the scene in order to determine lines of sight and adequacy of traffic
control devices. Much has been done to improve rail road grade crossings over the years, but many dangerous crossings continue to exist. Introtech has reconstructed issues such as:
- Line of sight at grade crossings
- Analysis of on-board event data recorders
- Adequacy of traffic control devices and other warning systems
- Speed of the train
- Human factor analysis of the train crew, including fatigue and work schedule factors
- Strategy and tactics of engineers and motorists
